• 5 must-dos in Flachau

For adventurers, Flachau is the place to be.

Experience action and pleasure in one of the most beautiful spots in Salzburger Land!

We – four friends from Flachau – have tested the ultimate must-do activities in Flachau for you.

The first adventure saw us heading up to the top of the hill and mountain karting down again, before enjoying a sensational dinner in a trendy ambience to round off the day in style. We headed uphill again on day 2, this time on mountain bikes, and opted for another healthy dose of adrenalin in the high ropes course.

So here are the 5 must-dos in Flachau:

Must-do 1: HIKING

Our insider tip for all mountaineers is a moderately difficult hike with exceptional views (of the surrounding mountains) and a delicious hearty snack. We took the hike to Spirzinger and Spatzeck for you.

The trip started with a ride on the "hikers' bus" to Obertauern and the Gnadenalmen alpine pastures, the starting point for our trek. Stunning views were on the cards from the off with the spectacular Johannes waterfall, which plunges over 60 m into the depths. The route then took us along the idyllic Hirschwandsteig trail with its breathtaking panoramas.

Last but not least, we headed to the wonderful Scharfetthütte hut, where the "Manggei" (marmots) roam free and the best "Kasjausen" (cheese snacks) in the entire Flachau valley are served. If you're lucky, you might even spot some ibex! We guarantee that you'll discover a love of nature in the very heart of the countryside. So lace up your boots, grab your rucksack and get going!

Must-do 2: MOUNTAIN KARTING

The toboggan run from Sattelbauer guesthouse is transformed into an action-packed race track – an absolute summer holiday highlight. The "Mountain Cart Guided Tour" is a definite MUST-do.

We took the shuttle service up to the alpine pasture, where the guide gave us a brief introduction. Then we were off: hurtling downhill across country. The best thing? You choose your speed.

Mountain karting is great no matter what the weather – in fact, it's almost more fun in the rain!

3. Must-do: FOOD & DRINK

From traditional pubs, rustic alpine huts, trendy street food outlets and classic mountain inns to the chic gourmet restaurant, Flachau has something for every taste and every budget.

We really enjoyed our evening at Steakhaus Schusterhäusl steakhouse – great food and delicious drinks. No matter what you're in the mood for, Flachau has just the culinary delights for you.

So head to Flachau, for fun and a feast for the senses.

4. Must-do: CYCLING

Grab your mountain bike, e-bike or road bike, and prove your mettle! Heading up Hochgründeck is a demanding trip for hardened mountain bikers. For those looking for a less challenging option, Hochgründeck is also easily accessible by e-bike.

The tour led us over asphalt and gravel paths from the Reitdorf district over the Aigenberg to the Hochgründeck. In between, we repeatedly stopped for a drink and admired the magnificent views. After about 3.5 hours we had our destination in sight - the enthroned Heinrich-Kiener-Haus (1,800m).

A sensational view of the Salzburger Sportwelt mountains awaited us at the top. As did a hearty snack from the two friendly hosts at Heinrich-Kiener-Haus (1800 m).

If your calves are burning, it's been a brilliant day – there's only one thing missing: savour a cool wheat beer and soak in the magnificent panoramic view.

5. Must-do: ROPES COURSE

If that's not enough for you, another adrenaline rush is not far away. We tried out the high ropes course in Flachauwinkl for you and one thing is for sure: you can look forward to an action-packed day of fun! Secure in our harnesses, we got a taste of climbing challenges on the obstacle course with the help of professional climbing guides. We overcame 70 different obstacles in trees at heights of 4 to 12 metres. Willpower – and of course a whole lot of fun – were the name of the game. Finally, we floated on climbing cloud 7 over Flachauwinkl lake on the 150-metre flying fox.

Insider tip: in good weather, you can take a refreshing jump in the lake. Access is free. This way to your personal climbing experience. Fun guaranteed!
