Freeriding in Flachauwinkl-Zauchensee in Salzburgerland

Your safety is our concern

Safety First - Know your limits

Freeriding often looks easier than it is - deep snow requires strength, fitness and experience. If you leave the secured pistes, you should be a very good skier or snowboarder and have some off-piste experience. It is best to try your first freeride turns on secured, marked ski routes or start with an experienced guide. Acquire the necessary expertise through avalanche or snow profile courses. If you feel unsafe on a slope, look for a safe alternative so that you can enjoy your deep snow fun as safely as possible.

Avalanche risk - properly prepared

Avalanches pose the greatest risk for winter sports enthusiasts in open alpine terrain. A snow slab can break loose within seconds and cause burial. Going into open terrain without full safety equipment is an absolute no-go.

An optimally equipped freeride rucksack should contain the following items:

  • Avalanchetransceiver: The avalanche transceiver should always be worn close to the body. In the event of a burial, it transmits a radio signal that facilitates the search.
  • Probe and shovel: The avalanche probe is used to precisely locate buried persons. Without a stable metal shovel, rescue is practically impossible.
  • Avalanche airbag: Special backpacks with an airbag function have balloons in a signal colour that can be inflated by hand within seconds. This increases the likelihood of staying on the surface of the avalanche.
  • First aid pack: A well-equipped first aid pack should always be carried so that you can help quickly in an emergency.

Tip: Before every tour, the safety equipment should be checked for completeness and function. It is also crucial to know how to use the equipment.

Avalanche beeper check directly at the valley station

To ensure that you start off safely and prepared in the backcountry, you can test your avalanche transceiver directly on site: Special test stations are available at the valley stations of the Zauchensee World Cup Arena and at Highport Flachauwinkl. Simply walk past, check your device - and start your powder adventure with a good feeling.
