Flachau summit water
We all know that: Drinking water is healthy! An adult should drink about two to three litres of water a day: It activates the circulation and metabolism. Water supplies the body with important minerals such as magnesium, calcium and sodium. It makes you beautiful from the inside out and helps the body to flush harmful substances out of the body. And as is so often the case in life, it's quite simple: if something tastes good, we'll eat more of it. What luck that here in Flachau the best mountain water is always fresh and always available straight from the tap!
The Marbach spring

Our great treasure: the Marbach spring
Flachau gets its first-class drinking water from the Marbach spring, which rises at the end of the valley of the same name. Fed by the surrounding mountains of the Niedere Tauern, it supplies 130 to 1,000 litres of water per second, depending on the weather and season.
Thanks to this valuable spring, Flachau enjoys a sustainable and high-quality water supply - a real gift from nature!
What makes the Marbach spring so special?
- High purity - catchment area of approx. 2,700 hectares, mostly natural
- Valuable drinking water - Supplies Flachau as well as Eben and St. Johann im Pongau
- Natural cycle - Unutilised water flows into the Enns via the Marbach and Pleislingbach streams

Strict quality controls for the best water
To ensure the outstanding quality of the water from the Marbach spring, it is subjected to strict controls at regular intervals. Chemical-physical and bacteriological water samples are taken and analysed for this purpose. The result: the water from the Marbach spring has a high natural purity, which is due to the protective measures in the catchment area and the filtering effect of the rock. The measures taken in the protection and conservation area serve to protect the water of the Marbach spring and thus ensure drinking water quality. Our water has significantly low nitrate levels and an optimum water hardness/PH value.
Water-rich Flachau: Where the Enns has its source.
The Enns has its source at 1,783 metres above sea level in the scenic Oberennsalm at the foot of the Ennskraxn. It meanders gently over the Ennsalmen into the valley and joins the Pleisling at the Ennslehenbauern, into which the Marbach - the water of the Flachau drinking water spring - flows about eight kilometres before. With 254 kilometres in a total of three federal states, the Enns is the longest inland river in Austria: from its source in Flachau in Salzburg, it heads towards Styria, to Schladming and Admont. Then on to Steyr in Upper Austria, where the Enns finally flows into the Danube in the town of the same name. Even the ancient Celts and Romans were impressed by the mighty Enns, which they christened Enisa, and built fascinating road and path systems in its vicinity. Countless names and archaeological finds still bear witness to this today.

Drinking tap water is a sustainable pleasure
But our Flachau water doesn't just score points in terms of flavour, enjoyment and health. Drinking water from the tap also has decisive advantages in terms of sustainability: drinking local water without long transport routes avoids waste, conserves resources and makes an important overall contribution to reducing the CO2 footprint.
