This is what a family holiday in Flachau can be like

Summer holidays with children are at their best when you don’t have to plan every single day from scratch. That’s exactly where the Flachau Summer Card comes in handy. You can get it free of charge directly from your host in Flachau. It includes a varied programme of activities, guided walks, children’s activities, cosy evening events and various discounts.

Flatau Summer Card – Guest Card – Family

In this post, we’ll show you one possible way to spend a week’s holiday with the Flachau Summer Card. This isn’t a set itinerary that you have to follow to the letter, but rather an example of how families with children under 12 can make the most of the guest card. Depending on the weather, the children’s ages and how you feel, you can of course swap individual activities, skip them or replace them with other options from the activity programme.

A particular highlight: with the Flachau Summer Card, you also get the 12 Peaks Adventure Card at a discounted rate. This allows you to use several mountain railways in the region on selected days and explore different mountains. And with the Guest Mobility Ticket, you can travel on public transport throughout your stay in the SalzburgerLand. This makes for a pretty relaxed week in Flachau – with mountains, nature, exercise and plenty of time to catch your breath.

Sunday: Welcome hike and weekly info

We like to start the week with the welcome hike. It’s a guided activity included in the Flachau Summer Card and is the perfect way to settle in.

At the weekly information session, you’ll be introduced to the activity programme: what guided hikes are on offer? Which activities are suitable for children? Where are the meeting points? Which activities require booking? This is particularly helpful for families, as it allows you to better assess what suits your holiday week.

Afterwards, you’ll set off with the hiking guide on a leisurely stroll through Flachau. Not only will you get an overview of the village, but you’ll also receive practical, first-hand tips. You’ll get to know the main meeting points, hear a bit about Flachau and can ask questions straight away if you’re unsure about planning your week.

Our local tip:

After the welcome walk, take a moment to choose two or three activities for sure. Leave the rest open. When you’ve got children, having a bit of flexibility in your weekly schedule is often worth its weight in gold.

Monday: Guided hiking tour to the Marbach Alm

On Monday, why not join the guided hiking tour to the Marbach Alm? It’s part of the Flachau Summer Card’s activity programme and a lovely way to explore the head of the valley in Flachauwinkl.

Together with the hiking guide and the group, you’ll take the hiking bus to the head of the valley. From there, the tour leads along the Marbach stream into the beautiful Marbach Valley. The path is wide, the gradient gentle, and there’s plenty for children to discover along the way: water, woodland, stones, alpine meadows and plenty of lovely spots to stop for a short break.

Once you’ve reached the rustic alpine huts, you’ll have earned a break. A snack, some Kaiserschmarrn or a cold drink will make the hike even better. The walk is also well suited to families and works well with younger children. Nevertheless, do bear in mind: allow plenty of time. With children, the walk often takes longer not because of the elevation gain, but because every stream, every beetle and every particularly beautiful stone demands a closer look.

In the evening, it’s time for the beach volleyball night session at the Sportarena. This isn’t just for pros. Anyone who fancies a game can join in; those who’d rather watch can simply stay on the sidelines. Especially after a day’s hiking, it’s a relaxed summer evening without too much fuss.

Our local tip:

Even though the walk is guided, it’s worth bringing a small rucksack of your own: a water bottle, sun cream, a rain jacket and a little something to nibble on. Children surprisingly often get hungry just when the mountain hut is only ‘a short way’ away.

Tuesday: Forest discovery tour and archery

On Tuesdays, the Forest Discovery Tour is just the ticket for younger children. It’s one of the activities featured in the Flachau Summer Card’s activity programme and combines nature, play and a touch of adventure.

Accompanied by a forest educator, the children set off on a discovery tour. The forest isn’t simply explained, but experienced with all the senses: sight, hearing, smell, touch and sometimes even taste. The children take a closer look, spot tracks, and learn about trees, animals and the forest as a habitat. For children under 12 in particular, this is a lovely mix of physical activity and wonder.

Important: We recommend clothing suitable for being outdoors and that can get dirty. After all, the forest is the forest – with soil, moss, pine cones and sometimes wet shoes.

For older children, archery on Tuesdays is a good alternative. Registration is required for this activity. Concentration, a steady gaze and then that moment when the arrow flies towards the target – many children really enjoy this.

Our local tip:

Don’t plan too much for Tuesday. After a trip out into nature, children are often happy but also tired. An ice cream, a quick stop at the playground or a quiet afternoon is often a better option than another packed activity.

Wednesday: Morning yoga and the first day with the 12 Peaks Adventure Card

Wednesday gets off to a relaxed start with morning yoga. It might not be the first thing children put on their wish list, but it’s a lovely treat for parents. A chance to start the day in peace, take a deep breath and look out at the mountains before everyone starts asking what’s on for today.

After that, the first day is the perfect time to use the 12 Peaks Adventure Card. You can get it at a discount with the Flachau Summer Card. If you want to explore several mountains with children, this offers great flexibility, allowing you to use various mountain railways on the days of your choice.

To get things off to a good start, we like to stay in Flachau: taking the Starjet 1 up to Flori’s Adventure Trail. The circuit is ideal for families because it isn’t too long and children can keep discovering something new along the way. You don’t have to keep encouraging them, as the trail itself offers plenty of variety.

If everyone’s still in good spirits, you can take the Starjet 2 further up. If not, just stick to Flori’s Adventure Trail and take it easy. That’s often the best decision on a family holiday: not having to make the most of every ticket and every day right down to the last minute.

Our local tip:

Have a quick look at the weather and how everyone’s feeling the night before. It sounds obvious, but it helps. If the children are already tired on Wednesday, it’s best to stick to just Starjet 1 and Flori’s Adventure Trail. The mountain isn’t going anywhere.

Thursday: Guided hiking tour: ‘Castle view meets valley panorama’

On Thursday, another guided hiking tour from the Flachau Summer Card’s activity programme is on the agenda: ‘Castle view meets valley panorama'. This tour leads from Reitdorf via Höch Castle through the forest to a beautiful plateau.

A leisurely picnic break is planned there. Please bring your own snacks. A few sandwiches, some fruit, perhaps a sweet treat for the children – that’s often all you need when the view and the break go hand in hand. Afterwards, we’ll head back together towards Reitdorf and on to the swimming lake, where, weather permitting, you can take a dip to cool off.

The walk is pleasant, but still a proper hike. So, good walking shoes, something to drink and weather-appropriate clothing are essential. Especially with children, it’s better to have an extra layer in your rucksack than to realise later that it’s actually cooler in the woods than you thought.

In the evening, it’s a cosy affair by the bonfire with live music. There’s bread on a stick, everyone sits together, the children gaze into the fire and the adults strike up conversations with other guests. No fuss, no stress – just a lovely summer’s evening.

Our local tip:

Don’t forget to pack a picnic for the walk, and take a light jacket for the campfire. Even after warm days, it can get chilly quickly in the mountains in the evening.

Friday: Out and about again with the 12 Peaks Adventure Card, and Foot Darts to round things off

On Friday, it’s a good idea to make use of the 12 Peaks Adventure Card once more. If you’ve bought it for several days, you could, for example, take the Flying Mozart to Wagrain, try out the woom Bike Area or go on a trip to the Geisterberg in St. Johann.

This is a lovely way, especially with children, to experience another mountain without over-scheduling the day. The handy thing about the 12 Peaks Adventure Card is that you can use several mountain railways on the days of your choice and decide what really suits you best, depending on the weather, your mood and your energy levels.

In the afternoon or evening, Foot Darts makes for a fun way to round off the Flachau Summer Card’s activity programme. A dartboard about four metres high is set up, and you kick footballs at it. The footballs and the dartboard are covered in Velcro so that the hits stick.

It sounds simple – and that’s exactly why it’s fun for both children and adults. You don’t need any prior experience, just a bit of aim and the desire to give it a go.

Our local tip:

Don’t try to cram everything in on the last day of your holiday. Instead, pick one mountain or one activity and leave enough time for packing, a swim, an ice cream or simply a final, leisurely sit on the terrace.

Handy for the whole week: the Guest Mobility Ticket

Something many families underestimate: the Guest Mobility Ticket is really handy on holiday. It allows you to use public transport in the SalzburgerLand during your stay, so you don’t have to get in the car for every journey.

This is particularly handy when travelling with children. No need to hunt for a parking space, less driving back and forth, and sometimes the bus journey itself is a bit of an adventure. What’s more, the ticket can be easily combined with activities included in the Flachau Summer Card or day trips in the region.

Our local tip:

Ask your host about the Guest Mobility Ticket as soon as you arrive, and save it on your mobile or take a printed copy with you. That way, you’ll have it to hand if you fancy popping out at short notice.

And what else? There’s still plenty more to come

This sample week shows just one way in which you can make the most of the Flachau Summer Card. The activity programme is much more varied: depending on the week and availability, there are further guided hikes, children’s programmes, sports activities and cosy evening get-togethers.

So you don’t have to stick to this plan exactly. Perhaps your family would prefer more water activities, more mountain railways, more children’s programmes or simply an extra free afternoon. That’s precisely the advantage of the Flachau Summer Card: it offers you plenty of options, but no rigid timetable.

Weekly schedule for the Flachau Summer Card 2026

Our conclusion: The Flachau Summer Card as a central theme for the week’s holiday

The Flachau Summer Card isn’t a programme that you have to tick off item by item. It’s more of a guide for your holiday: you’ll find ideas, guided activities, children’s programmes and discounts – and you can choose whatever suits your family best.

Our sample week combines two guided hikes, a children’s programme, cosy evening activities and two days with the 12 Peaks Adventure Card. You’re just as free to swap individual activities, take a quieter day or try out other activities from the weekly programme.

Combined with the Guest Mobility Ticket, you’ll also stay flexible whilst out and about. This means the guest card isn’t just a nice extra, but a really practical companion for your family holiday in Flachau.

So: pick up your Flachau Summer Card from your host, come along to the weekly information session on Sunday, and then see what suits you best. We’ll see you on the trail, on the mountain or enjoying some Steckerlbrot.
