For the sixth time Flachau invited celebrities from sport and society to the Star Challenge on the Hermann Maier World Cup run. With the slogan “Sport & Society meets upcoming ski stars”, 15 celebrities showed their ski talent in this year’s charity event on the evening before the Audi FIS Ladies Night Slalom in Flachau.
Just like in the previous years a giant slalom course was set up for one run on the race-ready World Cup course and the celebrities then teamed up with one young talented skier from the Salzburg Ski Association. The up and coming ski star was first to start, who set a time at full race speed. Before he or she started the celebrity needed to estimate how far ahead or behind he or she would cross the finishing line compared to his or her team colleague. Any team which has the smallest time interval, taking the estimate into account, wins the event.
In front of roughly 2,000 enthusiastic spectators the former ski racer Karin Köllerer and her son Fredrik Skaardal managed that the best. With an interval of only 0.08 seconds both of them won ahead of the teams Hubertus von Hohenlohe / Christoph Mittersteiner and Christian Klien / Johannes Paßrugger. The net proceeds of € 5,000 were handed over to the SLSV President Bartl Gensbichler to help promote the young.
The Star Challenge, however, wasn’t the only entertaining event of the evening, as a large crowd gathered for the autograph hour and the subsequent draw for the start numbers in the village centre.
