Making-Of FUNSPACE Flachau

Where visitors can now climb, slide, play and explore, there was still a large construction site just a few months ago. Excavators, earthworks, material deliveries and plenty of hard-working hands shaped the area around the valley station of the Achter Jet.
FUNSPACE Flachau has now transformed this space into a new adventure area covering around 10,000 m². But before the first visitors could explore the site, it took numerous planning stages, intensive weeks of construction and close cooperation between many different partners and teams.
Come behind the scenes with us and discover how FUNSPACE Flachau gradually took shape, from the first work on site to the finished adventure area.

Before the first excavator could arrive, one question was at the heart of the project: How can we create a place where movement, play, action and shared experiences all come together?
Together with our project partners, we planned, sketched, coordinated and fine-tuned the details again and again. Different areas all had to find their place on the site – from the water playground and Ninja course to slides, bouldering features and various play elements.
On paper, FUNSPACE Flachau was already easy to imagine. But at this point, the actual site still looked completely different.

Once construction began, things really started to get moving. First, the site had to be prepared for the individual adventure areas. Earth was moved, surfaces were shaped and differences in elevation were adjusted.
Especially during this phase, the site changed almost every day. Where there was still an open area in the morning, new contours had already begun to emerge just a few hours later.
For us, this was one of the most exciting moments of the entire project: for the first time, we could see how the ideas from the planning stage were actually becoming reality.

Once the major earthworks were complete, work moved on to the individual elements. Little by little, the construction site began to transform into an adventure playground.
The first play and activity elements were delivered and installed. The Ninja area began to take shape, ball tracks were assembled, slides were put into place, and intensive work continued around the water playground.
Many different trades and teams had to work together perfectly. A total of 17 companies were involved in bringing the project to life. From earthworks and technical installations to assembling the individual attractions, each stage of the process seamlessly led into the next.

After around three months of intensive construction, completion was getting closer and closer. As with almost every construction project, the final phase meant that many things had to happen at the same time.
One area was still being fitted out, another was being landscaped, while final technical work was being carried out elsewhere. At the same time, inspections, testing and the final preparations for the various areas were underway.
With every finishing touch, another piece of the construction site disappeared. And FUNSPACE Flachau – until then something we had mainly known from plans and visualisations – was suddenly right there in front of us.

From the first groundbreaking to the completed adventure area, the planning and construction of FUNSPACE Flachau was a project full of challenges, ups and downs – all part of a project of this scale.
Today, FUNSPACE Flachau represents the result of this shared effort: a new place full of movement, fun and opportunities to connect.
