Nature, mountains and fun: Flachau in the Salzburger Land is an Eldorado for all those who want to be active in a beautiful environment and experience as much as possible. With daily guided hikes to discover and a programme of action, adventure and fun sports there’s always something going on. From summer 2018 the attractive Flachau summer card is valid even longer. Another highlight is the launch of the new “Stoneman TAURISTA”. After South Tyrol, Switzerland and Germany the successful concept of the internationally hyped mountain bike challenge “Stoneman by Roland Stauder powered by Rocky Mountain” is finally coming to the region around Flachau and will celebrate its premiere here. The 123 km long route with 4,500 metres to climb is a top highlight for real mountain bike experts.
Family experience “Holiday in the mountains”: The mountains in Flachau are part of a summer holiday just like the modern cable cars, the delicious hearty snack at the huts and the absolutely stunning panorama. Nestled in between the Dachstein and the Tauern Massif, Flachau offers a brilliant combination of relaxation, exercise, action and the possibility to enjoy nature. The peaks in and around Flachau are 2,000 to 3,000 metres high and the mountains offer the most beautiful views in the whole of the Salzburger Land: for example the Grießenkar, a hiking paradise. Either hike up to the summit or take one of the Flachau cable cars to make it even easier, on your own or with one of the local hiking guides on well-signposted paths or on entertaining nature trails. The mountains in Flachau are simply a paradise outdoors, especially for nature-lovers.
Rustic huts, glistening mountain lakes and refreshing streams will accompany you on your hike as well as the cows and horses that also spend their summer up on the mountain pastures. Guided themed hikes are available every day, where guests with the Flachau summer card can participate free of charge in hikes such as “Cheese and doughnuts”, “Castle and view of the Enns valley” or “Wild waters”.
New for summer 2018: The “Stoneman TAURISTA” a mega MTB experience
Flachau is one of the best mountain bike destinations in the Salzburger Land. Alongside a network of 700 km of MTB paths and 24 sign-posted routes guided bike rides are offered daily in the summer. There is a bike competence centre, a MTB skills track and also a mountain bike park in neighbouring Wagrain. In the whole region roughly 250 e-bikes can be hired out including the latest e-mountain bikes. From summer 2018 Flachau will get another accolade: the “Stoneman TAURISTA”, which starts on 7th July 2018. The first “Stoneman by Roland Stauder powered by Rocky Mountain” was held in 2010 in South Tyrol. Roland Stauder, who comes from Val Pusteria, was a keen mountain bike athlete for 20 years and also an overall World Cup winner. After he retired from professional racing he developed the idea of the first Stoneman, a technical, extremely challenging, difficult mountain bike challenge in the Dolomites in South Tyrol. In the meantime the Stoneman challenge is now also held in Germany and Switzerland. They’re all cult events and are the most challenging and adventurous mountain bike events all-round. Well-signposted and with check points they can also be ridden on your own. The route around Flachau is 123 kilometres long and has 4,500 metres of climbing and leads you through one of the most beautiful mountainous regions in the Eastern Alps. It’s designed for three one-day stages but can also be completed by ambitious athletes in two days or even one. All the mountain bikers who complete the route in one day will receive a Golden trophy. Those who complete it in two days will get the Silver trophy. And those who complete the route in three days can look forward to the Bronze trophy. The Rossbrand and the Grießenkar in Flachau are some of the scenic highlights. En route you’ll see the Gnadenalmen, one of the most beautiful mountain valleys in Austria and Lake Oberhüttensee in Forstau. The Dachstein and the Tauern Massif provide an impressive mountain backdrop and unique, beautiful vistas. The 360° mountain panorama, which the mountain bikers can enjoy at especially exposed checkpoints, makes the Stoneman TAURISTA so unique and extraordinary.
