"Not skiing again - lets try something new!"

Are you still looking for an alternative to skiing? Then I’ve got a great idea for you. How about a few laps of fat biking? I gave it a try myself last week.

So let’s go! I meet my friends at Fun & Pro. This is where our tour starts. The right equipment is extremely important. Clothing suitable for the weather, sturdy shoes, gloves and a helmet are essential. A little tip: wear cycling shorts under your ski pants, no one will see them and they make your ride more comfortable. Our guide has already fetched the fatbikes for us and gives us a few tips before we start. When going uphill, it’s better to use a low gear and pace yourself, the fatbikes do not have a motor. 😉

“Cycling is good for your calves!”

Helmets on, gloves on and let’s go!

Together we make our way up to the Sattelbauer. I’m surprised how well the wheels work with the thick tyres. It makes riding them really fun. Nevertheless, a good level of fitness is required.

We’ve almost done it!

Due to the amusing conversations, the ride up was a piece of cake and the Sattelbauer was already in sight.

We arrived at our tour’s destination relieved and full of joy. It’s all downhill from here.

The weather is perfect and the landscape looks like a winter wonderland. We decide to take a few fun photos with the fatbikes in the snow.

Simply delicious!

Then we head off for a well-deserved coffee break. To go with our coffee, we order the well-known Buchtel with vanilla sauce and a poppyseed cake.

The funniest part of the tour is still to come. We’re already curious about how we’re going to manage the downhill ride over the snow on the fatbikes. We grab our bikes and get ready to go.

On your bikes, get set, go!

I never imagined that the thick tyres would grip so well in the snow. It’s really great fun. When riding downhill, it’s important to hold the handlebars firmly and possibly stand up and shift your weight backwards. If you’re a bit nervous, you can lower the seat, that helps!

We quickly get the hang of it and now try to drift in the corners. Applying the rear brake, lets the rear tyre slide nicely into the corners. Well that’s the theory anyway. Unfortunately, we never really quite got the hang of it. But practice makes perfect, maybe it will work next time. 😉

At the bottom, pumped with adrenaline, we smile at each other and look forward to the next adventure together.

Have you ever been fat biking?

Give it a try, it really makes a great change from skiing.
